Warm congratulations to Orienspace, a portfolio company of Jumbo Sheen Fund, on the successful completion of the Gravity‑1 Y3 carrier rocket launch mission!
At 06:00 on September 16, from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, China launched the Gravity‑1 Y3 carrier rocket off the eastern coast of Shanghai. The rocket successfully sent a total of nine satellites — the 26 groups of Qianfan polar-orbit satellites and the EUHT technology test satellite — into their pre-designated orbits, marking the full success of the flight test mission.
This mission marks Orienspace’s first launch for the networking deployment of a giant LEO satellite internet constellation, as well as the world’s first mobile sea-launched mission for a LEO broadband internet constellation. The mission set new domestic records for payload mass and orbit altitude in China’s single sea launch. The net payload exceeds 3 tonnes and was injected into an 800-kilometer orbit, fully verifying the adaptability of the sea-launch architecture for medium and large satellite payload missions.
The payload configuration combines stacked satellite assemblies and flat-panel satellites, imposing stricter requirements on multi-stage separation control technology. Notably, this mission achieved the shortest geographic distance between satellite manufacturing and launch sites in China: the satellites were manufactured in Shanghai and launched from waters adjacent to Shanghai. Land-sea coordination has effectively improved the overall efficiency of China’s commercial aerospace manufacturing and launch operations.
To date, all four sea launches of the Gravity-1 rocket have achieved complete success. This also marks the second open-ocean launch mission for the Gravity-1 vehicle type, occurring merely 56 days after its previous mission. With this launch, Orienspace has accumulated full engineering adaptation and satellite-rocket interface matching experience for serving large constellation networking deployments, laying a solid foundation to deliver high-frequency, large-scale constellation launch services going forward.
Moving forward, Orienspace’s Gravity‑2 is expected to be ready for its maiden flight in Q4 2026. As a reusable heavy-lift liquid carrier rocket, Gravity‑2 is under accelerated development and slated to debut in Q4 2026. It will deliver a LEO payload capacity of 21.5 tonnes, with launch costs to be substantially reduced further.
Gravity‑1 and Gravity‑2 complement each other. Together they will accelerate the development of accessible, reliable space access capabilities, providing industrial support for the large-scale development and utilization of LEO space resources.
